I love people.

Linda and I swam at the Parkwood Y today, and I had the following encounter with an extremely cranky old woman who was water-walking in the lane next to me when I got in. (I want to emphasize that she was in the lane next to me--we weren't even sharing.)

Ms. Cranky: Are you going to be splashing a lot?
My inner monologue: Yes, my goggles, noseplug, swim cap, and I are here to raise some hell at 7:15 in the morning.
My outer dialogue: Um, not excessively or on purpose.
Ms. Cranky: Well, stay on the other side of the lane because I don't like to be splashed.
My inner monologue: Lady, it's a POOL! What's wrong with you?
My outer dialogue: Um...uh, okay.

I recounted the story for Linda when she got there, and apparently Ms. Cranky also had a problem with how Linda handled her towel in the locker room. And do you want to know what Ms. Cranky was doing as we were leaving? She was clipping her toenails in the locker room. Apparently that does qualify as proper pool etiquette.

You could never make up a story that goofy!

People are "interesting"!

She must have been related to the older guy that was running at the MAC - the day Kathy did her indoor tri!

The kids and I showed up to cheer on our fellow rockstar...

AFter we watched Kathy and cheered for a few of her laps, one of the kids (I think Audrey) wanted to do some running. So, I checked with the people who seemed to be in charge....they said we could run...I asked which lane...they told us the outer lane...apparently no one consulted with the "senior trackstar" on the matter. And he got all crotchity and yelled at us at least 3 times to get out of his way. I guess he never thought to pass? Perhaps we should have scaled the wall? He was a taller person, who had a lousy and extremely short stride, all heels running and arms moving to and fro like a robot...whatever!

I must say along this journey, gratefully, we have met some amazing people, too numerous to count in fact. Some of those people, have really made quite a difference or impact on my life or in my approach to things! Way Cool!

Love the post Jess - LOL!

Some people just don't like the idea of other people in THEIR world I guess, sad.

Are you running 5K races to help train for the half marathon? Are you doing the 10 miles in Flint at The Crim in August?

I agree with Linda, getting to know the two of you better, Michelle, Ashley......etc...that is what makes it work for me.

Train on!

You're right, Linda--99% of the people I meet at the Y are awesome, which I think is why Ms. Cranky and Mr. Old Guy Trackstar stand out so much.

Kathy, I haven't thought too much about other races--I'm usually a pretty last-minute decider on 5ks. If I see one advertised that I can make, I do it. I think I could be persuaded to do the Crim, but I need to check the date and see if I'll be at the 10-mile point by then.
